Interior Design vs Interior Decorating?
Many people use the terms ’interior design’ and ‘interior decorating’ interchangeably... but there are critical and important differences between the two.
Interior Designers...
Respond to and coordinate with the building shell and structure...
Ensure compliance with local regulations governing structural requirements, ventilation, electricity loading, etc...
Create functional spaces that accommodate their client’s lifestyle and culture when recommending textures, colors, sizes and positioning of items...
Whilst at the same time ensuring the final result will have an aesthetic flow and reflect the style and look the client was wanting.
Interior Decorators...
Seldom need to consider these facets but are more concerned with furnishing or adorning the space with fashionable and/or beautiful things.
Summary...
Interior designers BOTH design and decorate... but interior decorators DON'T design.
Psychologists vs Psychiatrists...
This is similar to the misunderstanding many people have with Psychologists and Psychiatrists, regarding them both as 'shrinks' or 'mental health counselors'. The difference, however, is that whilst they both ‘listen and advise’ the Psychologist can ONLY ‘listen and advise' whereas the Psychiatrist can BOTH ‘listen and advise'... and ALSO prescribe medication.
